Can you imagine.. The man of Steel actually went to the opening in Dallas. What nerve! They should have made him purchase a ticket. Now, without reference to Steel, I have learned that smiles are most poisonous when they are false, and just when you think you've learned to recognize two-faced people life teaches that there are unfortunately people with three of them.
General managers of opera companies routinely attend important events at other companies. It would have been pointedly rude for the guy from the NYCO not to attend the grand opening of a major new opera house when he even went all the way to Manchester for Rufus's little production. "Nerve" for going to help Dallas celebrate? Calm down, Mary.
I think it's "Trouble in Tahiti". I've enjoyed many baritones in the shower.
Pell is quoting himself from about seven months ago -- was it that funny the first time? Apparently so, to the diehard FZ faction.
According to the blog entry in the New York Times, Steel did not attend the opening, which was on Friday evening, October 23, but the matinee on Sunday afternoon, October 25. I attended the one on Friday with Clifton Forbis as Otello. He saw Allan Glassman as Otello.
How was Forbis as Otello? We've got him singing that in Toronto in a few months.
Mr Steel must remember that while being involved in all these NYCO soap opera shenanigans of his, he does not drop the soap. He might slip or worse ....'try to retrieve it'; and will quickly wish he was back in Dallas.
Some would argue that the worst day in New York is better than the best day in Dallas....
